Restoring Hope Through Education: How CSAAE’s Back-to-School Initiative Transformed Dominion’s Life

For 13-year-old Dominion Desmond Nwasor, going to school felt like a distant dream. Financial hardship had forced his parents to make a painful decision — to withdraw him and one of his siblings from school. But thanks to CSAAE’s Back-to-School Initiative, Dominion’s story took a positive turn.

A Family’s Struggle

Dominion is one of five children born to Mr. Desmond Nwasor, an auto mechanic, and Mrs. Winifred Nwasor, a housewife. As financial pressures mounted, the family struggled to provide even the most basic school materials.

Mr. Nwasor explained that his earnings as a mechanic had dwindled significantly. “Many people can no longer afford professional repairs,” he said. “Instead, they try to fix their vehicles themselves. It’s been difficult to make ends meet.”

With limited income, the family had no choice but to prioritize feeding and shelter over education.

A child’s dream restored

On February 14, 2025, CSAAE’s C-EDU program — part of its Socio-Economic Program Area — stepped in to help. Dominion received a Back-to-School Pack filled with essential learning materials.

For Dominion, this was more than just a bag of school supplies; it was a lifeline — a chance to return to school with dignity. Equipped with the tools he needed, he could once again focus on learning rather than worrying about what he lacked.

A Community Grateful for Hope

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Dominion’s father invited his aged father and elders from the community to offer prayers for the C-Eu Team, their sponsors, and everyone who contributed to making the initiative possible. The Headmistress of Central School Mbutu, Mrs. G. N. Okoro, also commended CSAAE’s efforts, highlighting how impactful the initiative has been for Dominion’s family and the broader school community.

CSAAE’s Commitment to Education

The Back-to-School Initiative is just one part of CSAAE’s broader commitment to improving education. The organization also focuses on:
• School Safety: Installing perimeter fencing and deploying trained security personnel to safeguard pupils, teachers, and school property.
• Improved Learning Environments: Renovating classrooms, constructing new ones, and providing comfortable desks and chairs.
• Health and Hygiene: Establishing potable Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities to promote student well-being.
• Teacher and Student Support: Providing learning materials, building ICT labs and libraries, and enhancing teacher capacity through training programs.
