Every child deserves to learn in a safe and secure environment. But in many parts of Southeastern Nigeria, especially in rural communities, safety is no longer guaranteed.
With rising insecurity across the country, schools have become soft targets. In some areas, they’re permanently closed on Mondays due to fear and violence. In others, they’ve been abandoned—now shelters for drug users and criminals.
Teachers report stolen materials, vandalized classrooms, and children too afraid to come to school. Parents are pulling their kids out. And the future of education in these communities is hanging by a thread.
